'Project' and 'As-is' Watches
All watches on this page are offered 'as-is' and without warranty. Most need some work to be put into running condition. I have not personally serviced those that are running and, therefore, can not offer my usual warranty. I have performed a visual inspection of these watches and have described what I think is wrong with each watch. However, please note that I have not disassembled these watches and there could be additional work required to put them in running order.

Elgin, 18s, 11J, OF, Grade 43 movement. S#2215320. An early nickel movement and a beautiful one. Housed in a n equally beautiful Crescent swing-out case. Super dial and hands. I have this one in the 'project' category because it does run rather briskly for 24+ hours but loses about a half hour in that time.

Waltham model '79, Wm. Ellery grade, 11 jewel. Broken/slipping mainspring. Not sure what, if anything, else is wrong. Balance seems to swing OK. Large chip in the dial at the 'X'.

American Watch Co. (Waltham), 18 size, 11 jewel, model '57, William Ellery grade movement, serial number 655126 - placing production in 1872. Not running. Balance staff is broken. Broken case screw, but probably still enough to grab to remove it. Dial is nice - just dirty. Crystal has a lot of fine scratches. Silveroid case.

American Watch Co. (Waltham), 18 size, 15 jewel, Appleton Tracy & Co grade, model '83, Adjusted movement, serial number 3795265. Nice double-sunk dial and open morning glory hands. The dial does have a few very faint hairlines in the outer ring that are very hard to see without magnification. The balance does not move freely and there are some balance screws missing.

Prj026

Waltham 1883 model, frosted nickel movement. 15 jewels, adjusted grade. There are 2 problems to note: 1) the roller jewel is broken and 2) the pallet fork pivot jewel on the pillar plate is broken. Also note that part of the balance is blued, probably by someone trying to replace the roller jewel and overheating the balance. Nice dial. Frosted plates should clean up nicely.

American Watch Co. (Waltham), 18 size, 7 jewel, model '83, Broadway grade movement, serial number 3533791. Not running. Balance may be OK, just gummy. Missing key guard cup. Fahy's No.1 3 ounce coin silver case. Back cover is a bit lumpy. Front lift spring seems to be broken or missing. Hinges are good. Dial looks to be in nice condition, just dirty.

New York Standard 12-size serial number 1011223. Looks to be complete except for the balance staff. Hairspring is a mess. If it weren't complete with a nice set of original hands, I probably would have called this a 'parts' movement.
